On 30th of September 2011, a project on demonstrating the advantages for society of sustainable agriculture has been successfully finalised. Amongst others, the project focused on qualifying and marketing products produced while using modern and environmentally friendly techniques, and on promoting sustainable agriculture on small farms (farmsteads) in the Hungarian-Serbian border region. Information is available in Serbian and Hungarian.

This project was implemented by the Association of Gardeners from Senta, Serbia and the Cereal Research Ltd from Szeged, Hungary and focused on mapping and demonstrating the benefits for society of farmsteads applying sustainable agricultural methods

The research and demonstration activities presented the advantages of farmstead and rural economies, the opportunities of environmentally focused agriculture and environment-friendly agricultural engineering. It also focused on qualifying and marketing products produced while using modern and environmentally friendly techniques. The developed products received an own trademark. Analyzing the potentials of sustainable farmstead farming, the project has worked and developed environmentally friendly production that is economic and can be sold on the market on different farmsteads in the Hungarian-Serbian border region in three different fields: touristic activities, animal husbandry and plant cultivation. Dissemination of project results was successfully achieved through common farm days, media representation and a common publication that has been disseminated to the Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development in both countries.

The Association of Gardeners in Senta also runs the offshore study programmes in Horticulture of Corvinus University Budapest.
