Guidelines for the support of civil society in the enlargement region

Here is the latest draft of the Guidelines for the support of CSOs in the enlargement region as a result of the consultation meeting held in Brussels on 25 and 26 April 2013.

This is an excellent opportunity to comment on the guidelines and we encourage your active participation in the process. Just submit your comments and inputs by June 14, 2013 to ELARG-CSF-P2P@ec.europa.eu

Background

Having recognised the notable absence of themes such as social entrepreneurship and social innovation in enlargement policy, there was a need to gather support in order to lobby for its inclusion, and ultimately to improve understanding about the diversity of social enterprises and the potential growth for the economy. You can read more about Euclid Network's campaign here, including details of a letter sent to Commissioner Štefan Füle, European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, in which we drew attention to these issues. The letter also highlighted the example of a law passed in Serbia which, in practice, will make it harder still for social enterprise to flourish. As such, this work has been undertaken alongside Smart Kolektiv, who have written an article for the Guardian, available here.
