Partners Albania Supports Female-led, Cross-border Enterprise

Partners Albania, Center for Change and Conflict Management in partnership with Macedonian Enterprise Development Foundation (MEDF), started in April 2011, implementation of the project Promoting business women enterprises in the cross border area Struga-Pogradeci, under IPA Component 2, Cross Border Cooperation. 

The project is supported with the financial assistance of the European Union. 

It aims to increase cooperation and commercial exchanges between business communities on both sides of the border and to create a supportive environment for the development of women enterprises. 

The project focuses on promoting the businesses run by women and development of their capacities in the cities of Pogradec and Struga. 

Partners Albania and MEDF have produced a report which addresses issues related to enabling legal environment, role and support of local government and institutions, local mentalities and political environment with regard to support of businesses run by women. 

The report findings will be presented in a round table that will be organized on July 14th, 2011 in Pogradeci, with participation of local actors and local authorities from Pogradeci, with participation of local actors and local authorities from Pogradeci and Struga.

PA and MEDF have also conducted a needs assessment with the business women to identify their needs for further development with regards to capacity building issues on sales and services. Based on the needs identified, about 30 women will be trained and assisted to improve their services. 

In the upcoming period, other local and cross border activities will take place in Struga and Pogradec including local training programmes, women business fair, study visits in both countries, etc.
